Nice pose it is pulling, I have gathered other pieces of reference material which show how the crane will be animated. This will affect how the models topology will be layed out.

if that photo is 3d i will be very depressed
i am currently trying to setup a rig or ICE system where a square grid actually folds itself into a paper crane. just saying it sounds hard.
so far i got it successful until about 3/4 of the way in but geometry intersects and other issues-
the distance between segments on the grid should stay the same in order not to lose form in the later portions of the folding animation.
